MS Degree Program

Area of Concentration in
Information Security

Information security protects the confidentiality of computer system components. Experts involved in this specialty manage information security concepts and practices. Our program consists of courses on information security management, network security and data protection. Students choosing this concentration will learn how to make an organization's database more secure and how to protect a computer network with a combination of firewalls and encryption techniques. Acquiring IT knowledge of ISO standards for assuring the security of a system is also part of the concentration.

Degree Requirements

The Information Security concentration requires 30 credit hours of coursework, a nine-credit-hour individual research project, and successful completion of a comprehensive exam.

The course listings below indicate in greater detail the content of our training in Information Security.

The five (5) required core courses are:
CIS501 Information System Design
CIS502 Database Management Systems
CIS504 Programming Languages
CIS506 Advanced Operating Systems
CIS507 Principles of Computer Networks

Four (4) Area Courses are:
CIS508 Database Network Administration and Tuning
CIS520 Advanced Computer Networks and Security
CIS522 Computer Security and Cryptography
CIS563 Information Security Assurance
 
One (1) typical CIS electives is:
CIS510 Software Project Management
 
MS Project (9 credits)

      - Research Project
