Program Description:
CIS519: RFID Implementation
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) describes any system of identification wherein an electronic device uses radio frequency or magnetic field variations to communicate information. The two most talked-about components of an RFID system are the Tag, which is the identification device attached to the item we want to track, and the Reader, which is a device that can recognize the presence of RFID tags and read the information stored on them. The software system with which the reader communicates, and stands between the readers and applications is called RFID Middleware.
Students will be able to gain a wealth of knowledge in the major elements and systems of RFID technology. In addition, we will examine how to use the Java Communication API to send commands to and receive responses from a RFID Reader. By the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to learn practical applications with hands-on examples to illustrate RFID implementation.
Course Highlights
- The Core functions of RFID tag protocols
- EPC Global Protocol Standards
- The role of RFID Middleware in implementations
